About教师介绍

Meet Thomas, the tutor behind Little Ant Math认识王老师 Thomas：小蚂蚁数学背后的老师

With approximately 16 years of frontline mathematics teaching experience (from 2010), I help students build strong foundations, develop logical reasoning and approach challenging problems with greater confidence.

My teaching experience spans school mathematics, VCE Mathematics, maths competitions and scholarship-entry preparation. I believe effective maths tutoring should go beyond memorising procedures: students need to understand concepts, explain their thinking and apply what they learn to unfamiliar problems.

Through bilingual communication in English and Chinese, I aim to support students from different backgrounds and help parents better understand their children's learning needs and progress.

At Little Ant Math, every student's learning journey begins with understanding where they are now and identifying the next steps towards their goals.

小蚂蚁数学由具有约 16 年一线数学教学经验（从 2010 年起）的教师创立，致力于帮助学生建立扎实的数学基础、发展逻辑推理能力，并逐步提升解决复杂问题的信心。

教学方向涵盖学校数学课程、VCE 数学、数学竞赛及奖学金考试备考。我重视数学概念的理解、解题思路的表达，以及学生将所学知识应用于新问题的能力。

通过中英双语沟通，我希望帮助不同背景的学生找到适合自己的学习路径，也让家长更清楚地了解孩子的学习需求和进步方向。

The climbing ant爬墙的小蚂蚁

An ant climbs a 10 m wall. Each day it climbs up 3 m, but each night it slides back down 2 m. On which day does it first reach the top?

一只小蚂蚁爬一面 10 米高的墙。它每天白天向上爬 3 米，晚上又滑下 2 米。它在第几天第一次爬到墙顶？

Careful — once it reaches the top during the day, it doesn't slide back.注意：白天一旦爬到顶，就不会再滑下来了。

Day 8. After each full day and night it gains 1 m, so after 7 days and nights it is at 7 m. On day 8 it climbs 3 m and reaches 10 m before night comes. (Many students answer 10 — that's exactly the trap!)第 8 天。每过一整天（白天 + 晚上）净上升 1 米，7 天 7 夜后在 7 米处；第 8 天白天再爬 3 米，就到达 10 米，不会再滑下。很多同学会答 10 天——这正是陷阱所在！

An ant colony lives in a box 3 cm wide, 4 cm deep and 12 cm tall. The ants dig a straight tunnel from one bottom corner to the opposite top corner. How long is the tunnel?

An ant's position along a straight track is x(t) = t³ − 6t² + 9t metres, for 0 ≤ t ≤ 4 seconds. When is the ant at rest, and how far does it actually travel?

Distance ≠ displacement. Find where the velocity is zero and add up each leg separately.路程 ≠ 位移。先求速度为零的时刻，再把每一段路程分别相加。

At rest at t = 1 and t = 3; distance 12 m. v(t) = 3t² − 12t + 9 = 3(t − 1)(t − 3). Positions: x(0) = 0, x(1) = 4, x(3) = 0, x(4) = 4. Common questions常见问题

Is there a trial lesson? Is it free?有试听课吗？收费吗？

Yes. One-to-one trial lessons are charged at the standard lesson rate. For group-class trials: if you're not satisfied, 50% of the standard trial fee is charged; if you're satisfied and enrol in the regular course, the trial fee is credited towards the course fee.

有。一对一试听课按正常课程标准收费。小班课试听：试听后不满意，按正常试听费用的 50% 收费；满意并报名正式课程，试听费用抵扣正式课程费用。

How much are lessons?课程怎么收费？

Fees depend on the course, class format, year level and lesson duration. Please contact the tutor for detailed pricing — we'll confirm the fee before any lesson.

How are classes grouped?怎么分班？

By year level, current level and learning goal — and for competitions, by the relevant competition age or year-level categories. One-to-one lessons are fully tailored.

Should my child do 1-hour or 2-hour lessons?上 1 小时还是 2 小时？

One-hour sessions generally suit younger students; two hours may suit older students and advanced preparation such as VCE. This is only a guide — we decide together with you.

一般低年级适合 1 小时，高年级和 VCE 等进阶备考适合 2 小时。这只是建议，最终和家长一起商定。

When are lessons available?什么时间可以上课？

Weekday evenings and weekends are generally available. Submitting an enquiry doesn't confirm a booking — the lesson time is confirmed once the tutor has checked availability and agreed fees with you.

Where are in-person lessons held? Do you teach online?线下在哪里上课？可以线上吗？

In-person lessons are in Grovedale, near Highton, Geelong. Online lessons are available for families elsewhere or who prefer learning from home. The exact address is shared when a lesson is confirmed.

What if we need to cancel or reschedule?需要请假或改课怎么办？

Please let the tutor know as early as possible; rescheduling depends on availability. Lessons missed for student/family reasons are generally non-refundable, but a make-up lesson or written solutions for the missed lesson may be offered. If the tutor cancels, you'll be offered a rescheduled lesson or a refund. See the full policy.
